Mission Critical - It could be a Lamista Indian in Peru where Orlando lived
When we started GardenAdvice.co.uk we had one main objective in mind, to simply provide people with advice on gardening. We imagined at the time that this advice would be on such subjects as how to sow a lawn, prune a rose etc. However we soon had questions and requests for advice from all over the world, in fact today we have members and regular advice request from every country around the globe.
The advice we provide to members and viewers in countries outside Europe and America often takes the form of information about growing new crops or practical advice on such subjects as how to stop erosion.
In the early days we had some interesting days looking up all the countries people had requested advice from and until we became used to it leaving your desk at the end of the day having often been twice around the world with the location of the people we had provided advice to was a strange feeling.
If you ever use our online advice services and we take some time getting back to you then it is more than likely than not we are on a mission critical for one of our member creating some advice that might just have all our resources tighed up for a few days possible providing advice that might led to a life changing effect for a small farmer in India or a lamista indian in Peru.
So if we do not answer straight away then you can always email us again its not that your request for advice is not important to us, its just some requests take priority.

Downloadable Video - the way forward

As most of our members and viewers are new to gardening they spend a lot of time researching and gaining information on the main web site GardenAdvice.co.uk Back in 2000 we started with a text base site that has always worked well. However as the internet and other media technologies have progressed it is now possible for us to deliver information to our viewers and members through downloadable videos over the internet.
In 2000 we had a very clear vision of how the internet would develop around the supply of information leading to informed consumer purchases. Our vision also predicates in the same way radio has been diluted by television that text based content for information on the internet will be firstly supplemented and then replaced by video.
Over the next 6 months we shall be publishing our first 500 downloadable video filmed and produced over the last 3 years. These downloadable videos are designed to supplement our current text based information.

Your very own garden expert online

After 3 years developing the concept of a personal garden expert service on the internet August 2006 became the first month the service was released to a limited number of our members. The new service is called MyGardenTeam

Together with your very own gardening expert on the MyGardenTeam team you will plan the objectives for your gardening project. You might want to rescue an existing garden which has turned into a jungle or start a new garden from stratch. Then your MyGardenTeam expert will create a plan of action just for you taking into account your objectives and the time and resourses you have available.

MyGardenTeam service also provides you will our ground breaking genesis4 online software combined with wordpress weblog software.

Hosted on the MyGardenTeam servers you are able to -
view your personal gardening plan and calendar created for you by your personal gardening expert containing tasks such as times to pruning or the best time to plant trees and shrubs.
Calendar tasks contain links to additional information on the scheduled task and in many cases free "how to" downloadable gardening videos. Create a diary record of your progress throughout the year
Set up appointments with your garden expert to discuss gardening projects and tasks or to receive advice.
Create your own gardening knowledge database by requesting advice and information through the online software.
Create an online album of your garden containing your pictures and video footage up to 100MB with 2GBmonthly transfer per month.
Invite your friends and family to view your online album containing pictures and videos

The MyGardenTeam service enables our experts to provide a more comprehensive and ongoing form of help and advice to the keen gardener who is developing there garden over a period of time. So far the most popular part of the service has been the calendar facility with a personal RSS feed providing a simple notification of when to prune plants as well as other gardening tasks such as feeding lawns and sowing seeds.
Autum 2007 should see the final roll out of the service with a wireless plant label development and local reporting weather stations which will enable the service to provide task information based on local light levels, soil moisture and temperatures levels together with air temperatures. Its a simple idea that provides you with your own gardening expert in the form of a personal gardening assistant online.
